FAQ
- What is the best free open-source Chorus alternative?
- The best open-source alternative to Chorus is whisper.cpp (or meetily) with Piper, self-hosted on Railway. Transcripts you run. whisper.cpp is MIT; meetily is a local meeting assistant — Descript, Riverside, Gong, Rev, and Notta without the hosted studio or caption seat.
- Is it free?
- The whisper.cpp / meetily licenses are open source or fair-code. You still pay hosting (Railway or any VPS) and any APIs the stack calls. There is no Chorus seat or task bill on this path.
- Can I migrate from Chorus?
- Yes. Start with the workflows or data you actually use, then cut over. The whisper.cpp / meetily stack page has the agent prompt and the cost table; most teams rebuild the slice that matters and leave old Chorus links until they expire.
- How do I deploy it?
- Open the whisper.cpp / meetily stack, copy the agent prompt, and deploy on Railway (one service, PORT, and a volume when the app needs disk). Placeholder: whisper.cpp as a worker plus a volume for models; meetily if the job is meeting minutes. CPU works; GPU is faster. No one-click template in this repo yet — Start on Railway.
- What does this replace?
- Descript / Riverside / Gong / Chorus / Rev / Notta. The published small-team estimate on this stack is $1,200 a year.
